My Books

MUD BOY
Written by Sarah Siggs
Illustrated by Amy Crosby
MUD BOY helps children understand bullying and the impact
words and actions can have on others. Through a powerful story
and thoughtful discussion notes by Dr Pooky Knightsmith, it
supports children, teachers and parents to talk openly about
kindness, empathy and standing up for others. It’s well-suited for
children starting school as well as those transitioning from
primary to secondary.

HUG WORDS
Written by Sarah Siggs
Illustrated by Corrina Holyoake
HUG WORDS is a story about self-compassion and the
importance of the words we carry inside our heads. Inspired by the
Five Ways to Wellbeing, it helps children to understand the
practical things they can do to keep their minds well. HUG WORDS
encourages us to speak kindly to ourselves. A valuable
contribution from Dr Sharie makes this book a worthwhile
addition to every home and classroom.
Helping children talk about the things that are often hardest to say.
MUD BOY → Focuses on how we treat others (external
behaviour)
HUG WORDS → Focuses on how we treat ourselves (internal
dialogue)
Together, they make a complementary pair – supporting children in
building both kind relationships and a positive sense of self.
Ages 5–11
