About Sarah

Children’s author, former SEND teacher, and writer of stories exploring kindness, inclusion and emotional wellbeing.

Hello, I’m Sarah Siggs

Hello, I’m Sarah Siggs — an author, former SEND teacher, and lifelong lover of words.

I live on a barge rather than in a house; I’ve always preferred a slightly different way of doing things. “Expect the unexpected” would probably be my motto.

I never expected to become an author. But sometimes something takes hold and won’t let go. That’s what happened with Mud Boy, and what later led me to write Hug Words.

Stories are a powerful way to communicate, and so here I am — writing books to help children navigate some of the trickier parts of life.

If I had to choose just one book to keep forever, it would be my Collins English Dictionary — full to the brim with words, words, words.

I hope that some of the words I’ve put together — brought to life through illustrations by Amy Crosby and Corrina Holyoake — help children on their own way through life.

Rooted in experience. Guided by empathy.
